In the Middle Ages people believed in the miraculous power of healing and therapeutic properties of gold. In Egypt, it has been used for medical purposes. Some even believed that the metal keeps the secret of long life. Proponents of this theory were drinking the liquid gold in the morning or three times daily on an empty stomach. It should revitalise them, give them the vigor and cure any disease.
Gold is used in medicine since ancient times, especially in ancient Persia, Egypt, Arabia, India and China. Arabs still believe that gold metal makes the heart stronger, relieves palpitations and trembling limbs, and helps states of melancholy. Many centuries Chineses cooked the rice together with a gold coin to complement the gold in the body. In some cases, gold is actually effective medicine. Metal therapy is used to treat venereal disease, brain cancer and wound infections.
The healing properties of gold have praised by Aristotle and Paracelsus.
